Dr. Bebiş visiting our room, cheered my daughter up who reaaly needed an uplift today... If medicine as effective as Bebiş enters the room every day, patients like us will recover much faster. We wish she would visit us all the time.

Objective of the Foundation
Objective of the Foundation
Since its establishment in 1993, Fondation Theodora, has an objective of relieving the pain and suffering of children who have to stay in hospitals and specialized institutions for long periods, by cheering them up and making them laugh.
Staying in the hospital is something difficult thing for a child. The child loses contact to his/her family and friends and has to cope with an unfamiliar environment which at the same time is usually utmost serious. This is where the Dream Doctor of Fondation Theodora steps in and comes into play to be effective. The artist builds up and adjusts his/her show according to one particular child, positioning that child at the center of the visit.
So the little patient, even if it’s just for just one moment, manages to put a distance between himself/herself and the daily hospital life which creates an inner feeling of insecurity and therefore finds a way to return back to his/her own world full of colors, fantasy and play. The Dream Doctor can include parents and siblings within this process as well.
Fondation Theodora, has been active in eight countries since the day of its establishment. Theodora whose headquarters is located in Switzerland, has been paying visits to children in nine hospitals located in Istanbul and Ankara with its specially trained team of hospital formed of professional artists, since 1998 - for exactly nineteen years. So far, they have paid more than 250.000 visits and given away laughter and moments of joy as gifts to little patients staying in hospitals.
During the course of the visits of the Giggle Doctors, it has revealed itself that children staying at hospitals and specialized institutions, require various needs due to their personal circumstances. This fact, has from time to time led us to develop some special programs for the benefit of the children.
One of the programs developed by Fondation Theodora in Switzerland, aims at the visit of over weighted children and adolescents under obesity therapy.
This therapy program conducted by specialists, lasts for a couple of months. An integral nutrition program, intensive movement therapies and group talks help these children to reorganize their daily habits and behavior patterns. Apart from the long term positive changes that effect movement and nutritional habits, the self-esteem of the children is reinforced as well.
The artists of the Theodora Foundation join in by taking up the role of the participant, accompany the children and adolescents in a playful way, motivate them and enhance their endurance. Through humour and changes, they facilitate learning processes and so create experiences of success. They act as intermediaries for children and adolescents in making new discoveries and enjoying these. Sports activities, conscious cooking and eating become a whole as a result of the playful and light perspective of the artists.
Staying in the hospital is generally something difficult for the child.
In this unfamiliar and serious environment, the child loses contact to his/her parents and friends. This is where the hospital clown steps in and comes into play to be effective. The hospital clown, builds up and adjusts his/her show according to one particular child, positioning that child at the center of his/her visit and at the same time collaborates with the doctors and the nursing staff while doing so. The hospital clown also takes into consideration, the parents and siblings of the patient and includes them in the process. So the little patient, managing to move away from daily hospital life , finds the way back to his/her own world full of colors, fantasy and play.
Mr. and Ms. Dream
This program has been developed specifically for disabled children.
These children are not ill. Yet they live and unfold in their own rhythm. Accompanied by the imaginary fantasy world of the artists, they make progress within a colorful world. Owing to collaborations with organizations specialized on their subjects, Fondation Theodora manages to get beyond challenging limits. Artists gives their assistance to these children to understand and integrate them properly and also create for them moments full of joy and light-heartedness.
The clowns are very nice, we had a great time. We want them to come again and again. The clowns were so good, I think they should come again on Wednesday.
